Here’s how a jar of pickles was behind a local pool closing for multiple days
No pickles by the pool please.
On June 24, David H. Madison Bexley Community Pool posted a pool closure notice on Facebook due to a broken glass incident.
The Competition and Dive pools needed to be drained and thoroughly cleaned before being reopened to the public. The aquatics complex anticipated that this process could take up to five days to complete.
According to a Bexley lifeguard, the broken glass incident stemmed from a child from a day camp attempting to open a pickle jar near the pool area.

Concerned residents commented on the post, questioning camp limitations regarding overcrowding and safety requirements.
The closure post included a friendly reminder of the pool’s glass policy and informed residents that all other pool amenities would be available during the cleaning.
The process went faster than expected, according to the Bexley Pool, due to minimal glass remnants; the pools could be opened three days earlier than planned.
On Friday, June 26, the pool posted that the Competition and Dive pools would be available for swimming at 11 a.m.—just in time for the weekend.
