Daycare in Linworth neighborhood in Columbus shut down following dangerous fire and safety code violations.

After a Columbus Fire inspection unearthed a dozen safety and fire code violations at the property, an emergency order was granted to close an unlicensed daycare in the Linworth neighborhood, Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein announced in a press release.

The Russian Learning Center at 2394 W. Dublin Granville Rd. was shut down following the violations, which included an open well in the playground large enough for children to fall through, non-functioning smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and holes in the fence leading out to Dublin Granville Road, according to the release. The daycare was also operating without a state license and had no certificate of occupancy for commercial childcare. Children were required to vacate the premises by the end of the day on March 26, and an emergency lawsuit was filed to close the property until further notice.

“Public safety is always top of mind, especially when it comes to our kids,” Klein said in the release. “Every Columbus resident deserves access to safe, quality childcare for their kids, and the Russian Learning Center failed to meet that basic standard. That’s why the Property Action Team took immediate action to bring this center’s operators to Court to get the facility shut down once they obtained CFD’s concerning report.”

The daycare will be closed until violations are repaired and a valid license for operation is obtained. The City agreed to allow the attached Romashka Grocery Store to continue operating.
