Here’s why the mayor of this Central Ohio city resigned after 14 years
Bexley’s mayor is stepping down, and into a new role.
In a social media post made earlier this week, Bexley mayor Ben Kessler announced that he plans to resign, “likely” on Sept. 30, in order to become executive director of the Columbus Partnership’s Regional Housing Coalition.

“This is not a decision I arrived at lightly, or without a tremendous amount of thought and counsel.” Kessler wrote. “It’s a bittersweet moment. And I wouldn’t be moving forward unless I knew in my core that the firm foundation we’ve built together has Bexley well positioned for its next chapter.”
According to the Bexley City Charter, the Bexley City Council will select an interim replacement for Kessler, and a new mayor will be elected at the city’s “next applicable municipal election,” which is slated to be held Nov. 3. It’s not currently clear who plans to run.
