Columbus museum named best in the nation by ‘USA Today’

Mary McCarthy

For the sixth time, the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) has been named the best science museum in the nation. USA Today released their 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards this week, with COSI winning first place in the science museum category. Museum leadership has credited the win in the fan-voted category to their robust local support.

This comes as no surprise if you’ve visited COSI recently. The current featured exhibit is “The Science Behind PIXAR” where guests can enjoy a behind the scenes look at the science and technology powering their favorite animated characters.

BROUGHT TO YOU BY

The original idea for COSI was born during a business trip to Chicago in 1957 by Sanford N. (Sandy) Hallock ll, who worked as an account executive for an advertising agency. While there, he visited the Museum of Science and Industry which he had visited as a child. A lightbulb went off, and he decided to open a similar museum in Columbus. The idea took off, and COSI opened to the public on March 29, 1964. Since their opening, COSI has welcomed over 40 million curious patrons from all over the world. They’re open 10:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Wednesday-Sunday and you can purchase your ticket online here.
