Columbus TV meteorologist going off air for 18-week cancer treatment
Marshall McPeek is once again stepping away from TV – this time to undergo an intensive round of chemotherapy as he continues his fight against a rare form of cancer.
In a message shared with viewers, the longtime WSYX chief meteorologist said he will begin 18 weeks of aggressive chemotherapy starting this week.
The treatment marks the third phase of his cancer journey.

“So step one in all of this was radiation, step two was surgery and now this is step three,” McPeek said. “This is chemo to keep anything that’s left from spreading somewhere else.”
Doctors are treating what McPeek described as a very rare type of sarcoma, and he was candid about what lies ahead.
“They promised that I will lose my hair. I will lose my eyebrows. I will be exhausted. I might even finally lose some weight. But importantly, I’m going to lose some cancer cells. And so that’s the best part,” he said.
McPeek said he has full confidence in his care team at The James Cancer Hospital.
“I completely trust the team… they have been incredible through all of this,” he said.
If all goes as planned, McPeek said he hopes to return to the air in about 18 weeks, sometime in August.
McPeek has previously stepped away from the station for treatment, and his latest update quickly drew an outpouring of support from viewers across Central Ohio.
