Ohio city welcomes new year by dropping giant pierogi into a vat of ‘sour cream’

The city of Parma has jettisoned the New Year’s Eve ball drop for something with a bit more character: the Peirogi Drop.

As the clock struck midnight leading into Jan. 1, a 15 square-foot pierogi was slowly lowered into a massive cup of sour cream (both weren’t actually made from food products, and were instead fabricated by Parma residents).

Parma’s first-ever Pierogi Drop took place on the roof of Sloppy Bob’s, which is located at 5994 State Rd. According to promotional material for the Drop, the event was held on honor of Parma’s bicentennial. The city closed off a section of State Road for the Drop.
