Ohio dispensary closes after reported health reactions prompt investigation
After two people had serious adverse health reactions, an Ohio marijuana dispensary has voluntarily closed while state cannabis regulators investigate what happened.
Herbal Wellness Center in Jackson, OH, owned by Vext Science, is believed to be involved with the individuals who experienced health reactions after purchasing products from the dispensary.
Vext Science said in a press release that they haven’t been provided with specific information concerning the individuals involved, the products they allegedly used, the dates or circumstances of any purchases, or any other information that would allow them to independently assess the reported medical events or determine whether there’s any connection between the reactions and their products.

They’ve provided product samples for independent testing and have voluntarily quarantined certain product lines across its Ohio retail locations, pending the results of the testing.
“The health and safety of our customers is our highest priority,” Vext CEO Eric Offenberger said. “We take these reported events seriously and are committed to full cooperation with the Division of Cannabis Control as it conducts its investigation.”
Kevin Sabet, president and CEO of Smart Approaches to Marijuana, discussed with 614Now what this could mean for Ohio’s marijuana industry and broader concerns of legalization and commercialization. “This Ohio investigation is another reminder that commercial marijuana is not a harmless consumer product; it can cause immediate health problems, and research also points to serious long-term risks to the heart, brain, and mental health,” said Dr. Kevin A. Sabet.
He told us, “And just last week, we learned that Colorado regulators took more than a year to issue a serious warning after reports of liver injury tied to a marijuana-based product—proof that once these products are commercialized, public-health protections too often come after people have already been harmed.”
