Ohio ranks on list of states where people spend the most on groceries
It’s no secret that grocery prices have spiked in recent years. According to the USDA, grocery prices have jumped a whopping 30% since 2019. WalletHub recently released a ranked list by state showing where residents spend the largest portion of their income on groceries. Ohio ranks in the top 20 on that list.

The study analyzed the cost of grocery essentials across the board, and compared all 50 states. In the comparison, grocery costs were weighed against the state’s median salaries and monthly incomes to determine what percentage of resident’s wages go toward grocery essentials.
Ohio ranked 13th on the list, with residents spending an average of 2.12% of their total monthly income on groceries. The grocery items analyzed included meat, dairy, produce, and cleaning products.
