Ohio’s seven-story basket building is for sale: Guess the asking price

One of Ohio’s most recognizable (and unique) landmarks is back on the market.

The former Longaberger headquarters (better known as the giant basket-shaped building in Newark) is listed for sale at $8.5 million.

It was built in 1997 to resemble the company’s iconic product. At its peak in 2000, Longaberger generated more than $1 billion in annual sales and became one of Ohio’s best-known brands. At that time, it employed more than 8,200 people directly. There were also 45,000 independent distributors (called home consultants) selling its products directly to customers.

Longaberger employees vacated the building in 2016 as the company reported financial struggles. The property was later purchased by developers who announced plans to restore and redevelop the site.

Since then, the basket building has undergone extensive renovations and hosted tours, events and office tenants while various long-term redevelopment concepts have been explored.

Now, the one-of-a-kind property is once again looking for a buyer.According to the listing, the seven-story office building spans roughly 180,000 square feet on a 21.5-acre campus. The property includes a fitness center, media room, glass elevators overlooking a large central atrium and more than 500 parking spaces.
