Possible tornado? ODOT captures car lifted and flipped on I-71 in Columbus

If yesterday’s storms felt stronger than usual—no, it wasn’t just you.

Despite no sirens or warnings, the National Weather Service suspects a tornado hit Columbus yesterday, August 11, around 10:30 a.m., passing through Dublin and throughout Ohio State University.

At around 10:08 a.m. yesterday, footage from the Ohio Department of Transportation showed a sedan being lifted off the ground and flipped over by strong winds. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

As of this morning, more than 84,000 AEP Ohio customers are without power across the state, the company said in a Facebook post, with 63,000 of those outages reported here in Franklin County. Power has since been restored to 89,000 customers. Along with damaged transformers, hundreds of downed lines, and even 98 downed poles, Columbus residents are facing damage to their own homes: fallen trees, blown-away fencing, destroyed cars, missing roof shingles, shattered windows, flooding, and much more.
