Report: Visiting football team allegedly steals more than $4,500 of merchandise from Columbus-area Dick’s Sporting Goods

A group of Cleveland high school football players attempted to take home more than just a win while in town over the weekend.

The Cleveland Glenville High School football team was in the Central Ohio area on August 27 for a game against Olentangy Liberty when Grove City Police reported a handful of football players allegedly stole items from Dick’s Sporting Goods.

According to Fox 8 Cleveland/WJW, Police responded to the Stringtown Road location around 7:30 p.m. after learning of a theft. Dick’s staff told police that about 15-20 juveniles came into the store and took more than $4,500 worth of merchandise. The juveniles were identified by employees as members of the Glenville football team, but police did not say if that was the leading factor in their conclusion.

After police spoke with the team coaches who were staying at a nearby hotel, they quickly cooperated with the investigation and returned some of the merchandise to the store.

Glenville went on to beat Liberty 34-13 on August 29 in Powell.

It is unclear whether anyone was arrested or charged regarding the theft incident.
