While Washington, DC led the nation with 4.46 visits per person, Ohio wasn’t far behind, ranking fourth in the nation with 3.86 visits per resident. Wyoming ranked second and Vermont ranked third.

Ohio ranked first in the country for total library circulation per person, with 12.99 checkouts and digital uses per resident. That figure includes everything from physical books to e-books and audio or video materials. Utah and Oregon trail closely behind Ohio for total circulation.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services noted that data and reporting methods vary by state. One thing is certain: Ohio loves libraries.
