Ohio tops list of states likely to have backyard firework accidents; Here’s why
With the Fourth of July around the corner, you may already be noticing fireworks going off…everywhere. Backyard fireworks are synonymous with the season, and it turns out Ohio is more known for unofficial firework shows than you might think. According to a study from The Action Network, Ohio is the #1 highest-risk state in the country for backyard firework accidents.

The study blends trade shipment data, consumer search behavior, and state-level legal restrictions to compare which states have the highest risks for backyard accidents this weekend. The study said, “The results show that an active backyard participant in Ohio faces a 3.54% chance (or 1-in-28 odds) of a holiday mishap, injury, or property flare-up. Ohio takes the top spot due to a massive international import footprint ($3.50 per person) combined with an incredibly high consumer interest score (93 out of 100). Since full aerial cakes and reloadable mortar shells are legal, local block parties carry the highest statistical volatility in the nation.”
