Van crashes into popular restaurant forcing it to close indefinitely

The snow hasn’t even started coming down yet but there’s already been a car-crashing-into-building incident.

Early this morning, a large white van pummeled into the entrance of the popular restaurant Mezcla, located at 1022 Summit St.

Garrett Talmage, founder and owner of the upscale, elevated Mexican restaurant, told 614Now that his restaurant will be closed until further noticed. “We’re trying to open as fast as we can,” said Talmage. They’ve cancelled their reservations all the way up to Valentine’s Day.

The building has been declared “unsafe to occupy.” They have to pull permits and the city has to come out and reinspect. Talmage said he still plans to be at Wonderball this weekend.

While the driver and everyone surrounding the restaurant are okay, with one person being treated on-site, the restaurant’s exterior and interior are not. The cause for the incident is still unknown, but reports from citizens say that another car could have been involved, causing the white van to swerve into the building.
