‘WalletHub’ unveils list of US states with the most drug use; Ohio’s spot might surprise you

You’ve heard the jokes. We’ve all seen the memes. While the cultural zeitgeist considers Ohio to be something of a hotbed for drug use, what do the numbers actually say?

According to a new WalletHub story, the truth may be pretty far off from what the general consensus says. The study, which sought to name the states with the most drug use, tapped Ohio as the the state that used drugs the 7th least (45 out of 51 total states, including Washington D.C. as a state as well).

The Buckeyes State tallied a total score of 33.28. For reference, Utah residents’ drug use was lowest, netting a score of 22.48, while the state with the most drug use, New Mexico, landed a score of 60.78.

WalletHub relied on data from three categories (which each had anywhere from 4-9 different sub-categories, including Drug Use & Addiction rank (50 points), Law Enforcement (25 points) and Drug Health Issues & Rehab (25 points).
