With over 100 stores at its peak, Columbus-based chain closes doors of final location

It’s the end of an era: Columbus-based brand Value City Furniture has shuttered its final stores.

According to a statement on the brand’s website, all of the chain’s locations have currently closed, with the last remaining going out of business earlier this month.

Last year, Value City’s parent company, American Signage, Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Nov. 22.

Originally, according to its bankruptcy disclosures, Value City planned to shutter several dozen stores across the nation. Locations in Centerville and Cincinnati were shuttered in this round of closures, with Columbus stores initially remaining open. The, in early 2026, the announcement was made that Value City would close all of its remaining storefronts.

Originally called Schottenstein’s, the brand was based in Columbus, where traveling salesman Ephraim Schottenstein opened its first store in 1917.
