The reopening will unveil a redesigned space, and a new permanent exhibition called Story of Comics. The exhibit explores the evolution of comics and cartoon art over more than 400 years. 614Now spoke with Caitlin McGurk, Curator of Comics and Cartoon Art. She said, “We are so excited —the Story of Comics permanent collection exhibit refresh has been years in the making, and we are delighted to be providing audiences with diverse exhibits that will be both inviting and accessible to people who are brand new to comics, and still exciting and rewarding to those with deep familiarity of the form and its history. This exhibit covers 400 years of history and really showcases the range of what is held in our archives, including materials that have never previously been displayed.”

The museum is kid-friendly and has something for everyone. She said, “We think people will be blown away by our beautiful new Calvin & Hobbes gallery, where they can get a close-up look at stunning original art by Bill Watterson. There truly is something for everyone— from an activity room for families to draw and read, to fan favorites like Peanuts, Spider-Man, Garfield, and so much more.”

The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum is free and open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The museum will officially reopen on Saturday May 23 at 1:00 p.m.
