Columbus woman sued over one-star Google review

A Columbus woman is being sued by a Trumbull County business over a one-star Google review.

Starr Manufacturing, Inc. –a Vienna, Ohio-based company that creates oil and gas equipment, pressure vessels, and more–filed a lawsuit in the Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas on Aug. 12, allegeding a Columbus woman’s bad review contained “false and defamatory accusations.”

The lawsuit was filed against Julie Watson, who published a one-star review on the company’s Google listing six months ago. The review reads:

“This company’s work has faced a host of quality control issues lately owing to contracting with shoddy subs, resulting in time consuming field updates required on multiple well pad sites to fix issues like bolts and fasteners being connected improperly or not screwed down tightly enough, and lack of oversight to identify where the breaches even occurred with the subs. Can provide locations and names of additional people to contact to confirm recent production and quality failures. Would recommend doing business anywhere and with anyone else.”

According to Starr Manufacturing’s lawsuit, Watson’s review contains claims that were made “falsely and maliciously,” allegedly the Vienna company has suffered “reputational harm” following the post. The lawsuit is seeking “an amount exceeding $25,000” from the suit.

Watson’s review, which contained 59 likes as of this morning, was one of 13 Google reviews for Starr Manufacturing. The company currently has a 3.7 star average on Google.
