A new citywide canvas is now on display across Westerville
BBQ got its deep hooks into me when I had…
If you’re looking for a new reason to explore Westerville this summer, the America250 Westerville Mural Project is the perfect place to start.
Now on display throughout the city, 12 large-scale vinyl murals bring Westerville’s undertold stories to life through original works created by eight talented Ohio artists. Inspired by the people, places, and moments that have shaped the community, the project invites residents and visitors alike to discover Westerville from a new perspective.
Unlike a traditional mural project concentrated in a single district, the America250 Westerville murals are located throughout the city and will remain on display for approximately two years. Some can be found in Uptown Westerville and on Otterbein University’s campus, while others are featured in parks, community gathering spaces, and along major corridors, inviting visitors to explore different parts of Westerville while uncovering the stories woven throughout the community.
The murals explore a wide range of themes, including agriculture, transportation, wetlands, fairs and festivals, Black veterans, Muscogee Nation students, Otterbein women in the arts, and Westerville’s longstanding tradition of civic engagement. Each mural offers a unique artistic interpretation of an undertold story, creating new opportunities to connect with Westerville’s past through public art.
To help visitors make the most of their experience, the complimentary America250 Westerville Guide is now available both in print and online. The guide features all 12 murals, artists’ biographies, historical background, a project map, and information about the inspiration behind each work.
Visitors are also encouraged to participate in the free America250 Westerville Digital Mural Trail. Using a mobile device, participants can check in at each mural location, learn more about the artwork and its inspiration, and track their progress as they explore the community. Those who complete all 12 stops by December 31, 2026, will be entered for a chance to win one of three curated Westerville prize packages.
Of course, the murals are just one reason to visit. Along the way, visitors can explore Uptown Westerville’s historic district, home to locally owned boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops, and patios. The district’s Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) makes it easy to sip and stroll while taking in nearby murals within the DORA boundaries.
Whether you visit all the murals in one weekend or over the course of several months, the America250 Westerville Mural Project offers a new way to experience
Westerville—one story at a time.
