Fall Looks Good on Westerville: Your Guide to the Perfect Fall Day (or Weekend)

Uptown Westerville

If crisp air, colorful leaves, cozy coffee stops and an excuse to spend an entire afternoon wandering somewhere sounds like your ideal fall plans, put Westerville on your list. Just north of Columbus, Westerville packs a surprising amount into a fall day—locally owned restaurants and shops, miles of trails, creative hands-on experiences, seasonal events, public art and plenty of places to grab a drink along the way. Whether you’re planning a date day, getting the group chat together or looking for something fun to do with the family, here’s your excuse to make a day—or a weekend—of it.

Start with coffee. Obviously:
Fall adventures require caffeine, and Westerville has plenty of places to find it. Grab your favorite fall drink from one of the city’s local coffee shops, then head out and see where the day takes you.

Uptown Westerville is a good place to start, where historic charm meets a seriously good collection of locally owned restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops, breweries and other small businesses—all within an easy-to-walk district. And yes, you can take that drink to go. Uptown’s DORA lets adults 21+ purchase an alcoholic beverage from participating businesses and enjoy it while exploring within the designated outdoor area. Grab a cocktail, beer or glass of wine and stroll the shops, check out the public art or simply find a spot outside and enjoy a crisp fall afternoon.

Make something while you’re here:Ready to get a little creative? Add a hands-on experience to your Westerville day. Pour a custom-scented candle, create a floral arrangement, try your hand at a new craft or sign up for one of the creative workshops offered around town. These hands-on experiences are perfect for a girls’ day, date night or anyone who would rather leave with something they made themselves than just another photo on their camera roll.

Chase some fall color:Westerville has more than 50 miles of recreational trails and hundreds of acres of parkland, which means there are plenty of places to catch peak fall color. Wander through Inniswood Metro Gardens, explore the wetlands at Highlands Park, hit the trails or pick a park and let the changing leaves do their thing. Pack a picnic, bring the dog or pair a morning outside with lunch and shopping in Uptown afterward.

Add pumpkins, ghost stories and a little fall magic. This is where Westerville really leans into the season. Head to a pumpkin patch, catch one of the community’s fall festivals or make plans for The Great Westerville Pumpkin Glow, when thousands of carved pumpkins transform the night into one of the area’s most popular fall traditions.

Want your fall fun with a slightly spookier twist? Uptown Ghost Story Tours take you through historic Uptown while sharing stories of the people, places and unexplained happenings connected to Westerville’s past. It’s history with just enough goosebumps mixed in. Find a different kind of fall color. There’s another reason to wander around town this year: the America250 Westerville Mural Trail.

The free digital trail connects 12 murals throughout Westerville created as part of the city’s America250 Commemoration. Each stop shares the people, places and undertold stories represented in the artwork, offering a colorful new way to experience Westerville and discover some of the history that helped shape the community. Before you hit the trail, check out the America250 Westerville Guide, available in both print and digital formats. It dives deeper into Westerville’s history, the stories featured throughout the America250 project and the artists behind the murals—giving you a little more context before you start exploring and plenty more to discover along the way.

Then register for the free digital trail, check in as you go and complete all 12 stops by December 31, 2026, for a chance to win one of three Westerville grand prize packages. Come hungry: Westerville’s dining scene makes it easy to turn an afternoon of exploring into dinner and drinks. Go casual, settle in somewhere cozy, grab a patio table while Ohio weather still allows it or hop between a few Uptown favorites. And save room for dessert. Ice cream, baked goods, chocolates and plenty of other sweet stops are scattered around town, so consider this your permission to order dessert — or make an entirely separate stop for it.

Stay the weekend: Make it a fall getaway with a stay at the Renaissance Columbus Westerville-Polaris Hotel, where the lake house-inspired design and setting make it an inviting home base for a fall weekend. Spend one day exploring Uptown, checking out the murals and getting creative with a hands-on experience, then save the parks, trails, brunch and anything you missed for the next morning. Come see why fall looks good on Westerville. Find more fall events, places to eat, things to do and ideas for your next Westerville adventure at VisitWesterville.org.
