Pull Up a Chair to The Big Table® on September 29

Maggie Valentine

On Tuesday, September 29, thousands of people across central Ohio will gather for The Big Table®, an annual community-wide day of conversation designed to strengthen connection and civic engagement. Now in its 10th year, The Big Table invites neighbors, coworkers, friends, and strangers to share meaningful dialogue about the issues and ideas shaping our region.

From affordable housing and education to mental health and the arts, Big Table hosts and participants choose the topics that matter most to them. The goal isn’t to debate or persuade—it’s to listen, learn, and better understand one another.

Everyone is welcome to participate, with conversations happening at Columbus Metropolitan Library branches, community centers, neighborhood YMCAs, and more. The Big Table is free and open to all.

Individuals and organizations are also encouraged to host their own Big Table conversations by inviting people to gather at a coffee shop, public park, house of worship, or another location. The Columbus Foundation, which organizes The Big Table, provides registered hosts with everything needed to get the conversation started.

“At a time when many people feel lonely or disconnected, creating opportunities for genuine human connection matters more than ever,” said Kate Oliphint, Director of the Center for HumanKindness at The Columbus Foundation. “The goal of The Big Table is for people to share experiences, ask questions, and discover common ground as we work together to build a bright future for central Ohio.”
