Why the second week of the Cincinnati Open is the perfect time for a quick Ohio road trip
If you’ve ever wanted to experience one of Ohio’s biggest sporting events but assumed you’d need to commit an entire week to it, the Cincinnati Open says otherwise.
The tournament, held Aug. 8-23 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, is one of the biggest on both the ATP and WTA tours each year, bringing many of the world’s top tennis players to Ohio just weeks before the U.S. Open. Both tours also named the Cincinnati Open as the 1000 Tournament of the Year in 2025.
While the opening rounds feature wall-to-wall tennis across dozens of courts, tournament organizers say that by the tournament’s second week, the draws have narrowed and the schedule shifts toward the biggest matches of the event.
As the tournament progresses into its later rounds, fans can watch the remaining players compete for a spot in the championship while also exploring the grounds, trying food vendors, and enjoying the event’s off-court attractions.
The tournament will culminate with Finals Weekend on Aug. 22-23. Along with the men’s and women’s singles championships on Sunday, fans can expect an elevated event atmosphere featuring performances from The Voice winner Javier Colon, exclusive merchandise, blue carpet walks and other activities.
Even if you’re not planning to stay for the finals, the tournament kicks off with an expanded Community Weekend on Aug. 8-9. The family-focused weekend includes Kids Day, All Access Sunday, the Red Bull BassLine exhibition, the inaugural Cincinnati Open 5K presented by Buckeye Running Company and interactive activities before official tournament play begins.
With Mason sitting roughly two hours from Columbus, the Cincinnati Open makes for an easy weekend road trip—whether you’re a die-hard tennis fan or simply looking for a summer outing before the season’s final Grand Slam gets underway.
