Richland County mayor resigns following alleged underwear-sniffing scandal
The mayor of an Ohio village has resigned following a pair of voyeurism charges.
The former mayor of the Village of Butler in Richland County submitted a handwritten resignation letter last month citing he was resigning “NOT under stress but under duress.”
The week prior to resigning, Wesley Dingus was charged with two counts of misdemeanor voyeurism. According to Mansfield Municipal Court Records, he was released after posting bond and was issued a no-contact order with the alleged victim.

On January 13, Dingus was allegedly caught on camera smelling the worn underwear of a minor in his care, according to an article by Richland Source.
Dingus also has pending charges of aggravated assault, vehicular assault, falsification, and dereliction of duty, according to Richland County records, for an incident from July 2025 when he allegedly ran over a man wanted for a parole violation.
Dingus is scheduled to appear in court for a pre-trial hearing April 8.
