Columbus man allegedly poses as government agent in attempt to steal couple’s home and rental properties

A Columbus man has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison after attempting to steal a couple’s home and rental properties.

According to an Aug. 4 press release from the Department of Justice, 49 year-old Shahiydullah A. Binraymond, who is also known as Raymond Walker III, was convicted in federal court and sentenced to 44 months prison in relation to a “complex fraud scheme” that he implemented while trying to steal property.

According to court documents, Binraymond posed as an agent of the Franklin County Treasurer, sending several letters to a homeowner demanding they sign deeds and other real estate documents related to the property they were living in at the time.

Binraymond then allegedly modified many of the documents in an attempt to legally transfer the victims’ property to an entity that he controlled. He also registered Ohio-based limited partnerships in the victims’ names.

He was indicted by a grand jury in June of 2021 before pleading guilty to mail fraud in March of 2022.
