According to the World Health Organization, processed meat can cause cancer and unprocessed red meat may be also pose a risk.
The report, which came out Monday, says that eating only 50 grams of processed meat, like a hot dog, sausage or ham, each day can increase your risk of cancer by 18 percent which means processed meat is now placed in the same cancer causing category as asbestos. Yikes.
Unprocessed red meat was labeled “probably carcinogenic.” WHO estimated about 34,000 cancer deaths happen worldwide each year that are related to diets that are high in processed meat. The meat industry is saying the report by WHO is biased and misleading. (le)
