Bare if you dare: This unusual Columbus tradition returns this weekend for the 12th straight year

If you’re having dinner al fresco somewhere Downtown and happen to see hundreds of bike riders in the nude, don’t be alarmed – the annual Columbus Naked Bike Ride is taking place this Saturday, August 5th. 

This Naked Bike Ride has been a tradition for the past 12 years. Along with promoting unapologetic body positivity, the leaders of the movement want to bring awareness for more protected bike lanes and the vulnerability of cyclists on the roads. They also consider this a fun and safe protest for our reliance on fossil fuels and cars in general.

Riders are welcome to wear as little or as much as they want, decorate their bodies, and to make fun signs. Signs and body paint from past events include “Make Bike Not Car,” “Bikes > Cars,” and “Ride Slow, Die Old.”

The ride is completely free and will span around 8-12 miles throughout Columbus, but the launching location hasn’t been released yet. You can check out their Facebook event page for more details!
