National gas station and food concept drawing Sheetz comparisons is coming to the Columbus area

Sheetz is here, and Buc-ee’s is on its way. Now, another popular national gas station and food brand is coming to central Ohio.

At a Sept. 11 Delaware City Council meeting, a plan to open the first RaceTrac gas station and convenience store in the state of Ohio was approved. 

The new RaceTrac will be located at the intersection of Davidson Lane and Sunbury Road in Delaware. It will be constructed on the north side of Sunbury Road in a lot that is currently empty.

According to documents from the City Council of Delaware, plans for the new RaceTrac station include approximately 6,000 square feet, and eight gas islands for small vehicles, in addition to more for larger commercial vehicles.

Based in Atlanta, RaceTrac operates more than 550 locations throughout the southeastern portion of the country. The concept, which opened first in 1934, expanded into Tennessee and Kentucky recently, and is now moving even further north into Ohio.

According to Brandon Sexton, a lead engineering project manager at RaceTrac who was present at the City Council meeting, the Delaware location will employ 25-30 individuals and feature “expanded food offerings” like freshly-made sandwiches, frozen yogurt, pizza, chicken, bean to cup coffee and more.

“I would benchmark our offerings around Sheetz, which has been a member of the community for several years,” Sexton said.
