Foodie Favorites: 614 Feast picks his top Columbus cheesesteaks

During my time in college, I spent a delightful year in Philadelphia, feasting on their authentic cheesesteaks. From hole-in-the-wall joints to legendary establishments, I’ve tasted them all. Now, Columbus may surprise you — it holds its own, serving up cheesesteaks that rival those Philly classics. Curious about my top three picks in Columbus? Brace yourself, because the top spot might just throw you for a loop!

#3: Hoagie City

3870 Main St, Hilliard

Securing the third spot is the Steak Cheesesteak from Hoagie City. The steak consistently impresses with its juiciness and tenderness. While I have a personal preference for provolone, the whiz option doesn’t disappoint. I usually complement my sandwich with peppers and onions. I love the flexibility in portion size: opt for a half sandwich at $11.50+ or indulge in a whole one for $23.00+.

#2 Wario’s Beef and Pork

111 W Nationwide Blvd, Columbus

Claiming the runner-up spot is the Steak Sandwich Wario’s Way from Wario’s. This cheesesteak isn’t just about satisfying hunger; it’s a culinary experience. Crafted from premium ingredients, the steak stands out with its impeccable seasoning. What elevates this sandwich is the blend of three cheeses: white American, Provolone, and the x factor- their house-made whiz. Priced at $23.95, it’s a substantial sandwich that justifies every penny. While many might stretch it over two meals, I often devour in one sitting.

#1 Marlow’s Cheesesteaks

93 N High St, Gahanna

Topping the list is Marlow’s Cheesesteaks, the crowning jewel of Columbus’ cheesesteak scene. While all three mentioned serve feast-worthy cheesesteaks, Marlow’s possesses that elusive x-factor. True to their Philadelphia roots, the owners have imbued the place with authentic Philly vibes. They have an iconic mural, featuring beloved Philadelphia legends like Rocky and The Fresh Prince among others. My go-to is the Marlow’s Way: a delightful medley of steak, wiz, provolone, both hot and sweet peppers, onions, and mayo. Though the original has spicy mustard, I opt for mine without. The real surprise? This flavor-packed sandwich is a steal at just $14, offering both taste and value in every bite.
