Update: Warehouse fire believed to be arson, suspect in custody
Update: Officials say they believe that this morning’s warehouse fire was deliberately set…and they have a suspect in custody.
Crews say that they have gained control of the huge warehouse fire on the city’s West Side. With the building partially collapsed, some officials are calling it one of the biggest fires that the city has ever seen. The fire is still not completely out and firefighters expect to remain on site through the day.
Two nearby schools, Columbus Preparatory Academy and North Franklin Elementary School, were closed today.
Two dozen fire trucks and more than 75 firefighters have been involved for hours in a battle against a huge fire at a warehouse on the city’s West Side. Officials say that the building does not contain hazardous chemicals. A few explosions were heard early on…believed to be propane tanks inside the structure. The warehouse does contain flammable materials like pallets and cardboard and those items are likely feeding the flames.
