Former county employee settles suit after claiming wrongful termination

shutterstock_272980883A former county employee who believes that party politics played a role in her firing is set to receive a settlement of $210,000.

Esther Adkins worked for the Department of Jobs and Family Services. She was appointed to be the agency’s assistant director in 2001 when the Franklin County Board of Commissioners was run by Republicans. Esther says that when Democrats took control of the board a few years later, she was moved into a different position, had her pay frozen and was left out of all policy decisions. Eventually, in 2014, she was fired. According to her, she was never disciplined for anything and never told that her work was insufficient.

The current Democratic board approved the settlement this week.
