Facebook post leads to kidney transplant for woman in need

Melissa Siemer was hoping beyond everything else that a Facebook post might come across the newsfeed of just the right person… relying on social media and the kindness of a stranger to save her life. As unlikely as it sounds that she would find success, she did.

Siemer suffers from something called IGA…a medical condition that prevents her kidneys from properly doing their job. She received a transplant in 2002, but that kidney failed her in June of this year.

Feeling the pressures of time and her condition, she posted about her struggle on Facebook and asked for help. Her plea was spotted by a social media friend who then mentioned the message to his wife. Danielle Whitmore was tested and found that she was a match for Siemer.

The transplant was conducted earlier this week at OSU Wexner Medical Center. Doctors say that the procedure was a success.
