You can now find recreational marijuana at these ten Columbus dispensaries
If you’re ecstatic that recreational weed is finally approved and available in Ohio, wait in line – no, I mean, literally – the lines at some local dispensaries have been out the door since they were approved to start selling flower to those who don’t hold a medical card last Tuesday.
The past couple of months have been pretty confusing. Back in November, Ohioans voted to pass Issue 2, which legalized recreational marijuana in Ohio. But not right away.
The following April, The Ohio Division of Cannabis proposed a new set of rules for recreational sales, only allowing initial medical dispensaries to start applying to sell recreational marijuana. They also had to set rules on licensing, product standards, packaging, where it can be sold – everything that comes with legalizing, distributing, and selling a new product that was once illegal, really – before allowing dispensaries to sell the product.

And finally, in June of this year, dozens of medical dispensaries, cultivators, processors, and testing labs had been issued provisional licenses, but they still had to prove they completed the requirements from the Division of Cannabis Control, including an updated POS system that differentiates between medical and recreational purchases, and proving they have enough supply for medical marijuana patients.
As of Tuesday, August 6th, about 98 marijuana dispensaries in Ohio were given the green light to go ahead and start selling recreational marijuana.
It’s up to each dispensary to decide when they’re going to begin selling recreational marijuana, but as of right now, there are ten dispensaries in Columbus and the central Ohio area where you can legally buy recreational cannabis. There will be more options once more licenses are given out by the Division of Cannabis Control.
Here’s where you can buy recreational weed as of right now:
- Trulieve (two locations: 8295 Sancus Blvd. & 2950 N. High St.)
- Amplify (5304 N. Hamilton Rd.)
- Bloom Medicinals (1361 Georgesville Rd.)
- The Botanist (115 Vine St.)
- The Landing Dispensary (724 W. Gay St.)
- Herbal Wellness Center (2950 E. Main St.)
- Terrasana (656 Grandview Ave.)
- NAR Reserve Dispensary (350 E. Long St.)
- Verdant Creations (1243 N. Cassady Ave.)
Keep in mind, there are some rules and restrictions when it comes to buying recreational marijuana:
- Buyers must be at least 21
- Buyers must bring a valid ID
- Some dispensaries are cash-only, so be prepared for that
- Buyers are not allowed to buy pre-rolled joints or marijuana seeds (as of right now)
- Buyers can only possess up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis
- Buyers can only grow up to six plants at home
Despite the long lines, Kate Ols, the Executive VP for Operations in Ohio over at The Botanist, said that most of the customers this week have been in and out of the store in 10-15 minutes. “We did have the pleasure of allowing non medical sales on day one, and we’re really excited for the turnout throughout the day. Sometimes people are intimidated, but something we’ve been surprised about is how quickly the flow has been,” she emphasized.
