‘Unforeseen circumstances’ forces 85 year old national chain to close locations around Ohio

A national chain since 1939 is being evicted from multiple locations around Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, according to court records.

Out of the last remaining 80 locations of Frisch’s Big Boy, Frisch’s announced they would be closing an “unspecified number” of their restaurants. The landlord is evicting the restaurant chain from more than 20 locations after they failed to pay more than $4.5 million in rent.

In a statement, Frisch’s said, “Due to unforeseen circumstances and various other factors…Frisch’s Big Boy Restaurants will be closing certain locations. We look forward to serving our loyal and beloved Frisch’s customers at other locations and apologize for any inconvenience.”

Court documents show that Frisch’s has failed to pay rent on several properties, dating all the way back to February. Locations have already abruptly shuttered in Springfield, Middletown, and Lebanon, and it’s expected that there are more to come.

Currently, the Frisch’s locations in Groveport and Grove City are still open.
