Columbus pizzeria offering “the hottest pizza on earth” for limited time

Mikey’s Late Night Slice is turning up the heat in the Columbus pizza game.

Literally.

Mikey’s recently announced the return of its Fiery Death pizza, which will be served at its University District location and its Elm Street location in Cinncinati, both until Nov. 3.

In case you couldn’t tell from its title, which bypasses subtleties, the pizza is very spicy. Mikey’s describes as the pie as “the hottest pizza on earth,” and while we’re not sure if that’s true on a Scoville to Scoville basis, it is still ridiculously hot, and brave diners regularly cross state lines to try it.

Fiery Death mixes ghost, scorpion and Carolina reaper peppers (three of the world’s hottest peppers), pureed scorpion pepper sauce and Sriracha-soaked sausage “to cool it off,” according to Mikey’s Instagram account.

“I don’t know why people travel from out of state for it,” said Mikey’s co-founder and director of marketing Jason Biundo. “It’s just about inedible.”

Mikey’s is also holding an eating contest with the pizza at its University District location. Contestants must eat three full slices of Fiery Death, a full Carolina reaper pepper and sit still for five minutes after. A pitcher of milk will be in reach for contestants, but they will be disqualified if they chose to drink it.
