‘Beloved weiner dog statue’ stolen from Columbus restaurant

Stolen dog. Well, technically, yes. But not really.

Last weekend, in a Instagram post that has since been deleted, the Columbus hot dog spot Dirty Frank’s released security video that appeared to show a pair of individuals stealing a wiener dog statue from the store’s new campus-area location.

Dirty Frank’s Instagram post about the theft penned a (slightly tongue in cheek) farewell to the statue, referring to it as “beloved,” although owner Miriam Ailabouni told 614Now that the statue didn’t actually have much emotional value.

“There’s no sentimental value, as it is just a statue, but it was an endearing little way to add to Dirty Frank’s well-known dog statue collection,” she said. “I mean, it’s a footlong wiener dog in a poppyseeded hot dog bun.  Other than our mascot Frank, what could be cuter.”

Adding that the concept has the “best fans ever,” she shared a “Stolen Dog” poster a Dirty Frank’s patron made as well.

“A 12 inch wiener can be hard to find, but I suppose it was a quick & cheap thrill for the weenie-napper & her accomplice,” Ailabouni said when asked why she thought someone might want to steal a Weiner dog statue.

The loss isn’t a big one, but it isn’t the first for the popular Columbus spot, as its campus location had its exterior menu stolen just after opening, and the Dirty Frank’s food truck was even stolen a few years ago.

“Our team also loves that the community connects with our brand and the fun we share, but let’s remember to keep hands off Dirty Frank’s wieners so we can all keep having a good time,” Ailabouni said.
