Mall brawls at Easton prompt buffed-up security

An increased number of calls to police in 2015 led the management at Easton Town Center Mall to buff up security in response.

The move comes after a series of highly-publicized brawls, which are getting more attention with the advent of smartphones and social media.

Area police reportedly received 500 calls related to shoplifting and 400 calls related to violence in 2015.

Increased security measures include more foot and bike patrols, increased private security, more cameras and more undercover officers.

Furthermore, Easton CEO Jennifer Peterson wrote in a statement that teenagers 15 or under must be accompanied by a parent after 6 p.m.

She ended the statement by writing, “Given the times in which we live, this is not only prudent, it is required.”
