Rockmill Brewery moving into old World of Beer

Following the closure of the World of Beer in the Brewery District last winter, Lancaster-based craft brewer Rockmill Brewery sees a new future in the space.

Located at 503 S. Front St., the 3,800 square foot space will be revamped to imitate the rustic atmosphere of the brewer’s flagship tasting room, a farmhouse about 10 minutes away from downtown Lancaster.

Owner Matthew Barbee says a small restaurant menu will be on the table as well–a new foray for the brewer.

The new location could be open as soon as this Fall after renovations are complete.

Barbee is also pursuing opening a location in legendary German Village establishment Juergan’s Bakery, though he’s being met with opposition from community members who are concerned about noise, parking and foot traffic.

He says the Brewery District location would be a way to divert traffic from the German Village location, the plans for which have undergone revision since the initial pitch to the German Village Commission. He’s still pursuing both projects.
