When an emergency unfolds, a standard ambulance can be dangerous for patients who are obese. The medics can also be injured attempting to lift the patients onto cots that are two small and ambulances that are too narrow. This week, a new ambulance went into commission in Delaware County for those who are morbidly obese. Two are already in use in Franklin County. The larger ambulances are wider, with bigger cots, loading ramps and winches to lift the patient into the back of the ambulance and is designed to carry patients who are up to 1,600 pounds, the Dispatch reported.
