Master of Horror & Hometown Hero, R.L. Stine to Write Series for Marvel Comics
Columbus born and OSU Alum R.L. Stine, the conductor to the nightmare train you rode as a child, has officially signed on to write the reintroduction to cult comic monster, “Man-Thing.”

R.L. Stine is famously known as the creator of Goosebumps, the seminal horror book series that ran during the 1990s.
The five issue series is a dream come true according to an interview in the New York Times.
“My first ambition was to be a comic book artist,” he said. “I started doing these little comic books in the fourth grade: ‘Super Stooge,’ the dumbest hero on earth.” He later lamented his lack of talent in the 4th grade, prompting him to give up the ghost and move to writing.
Marvel gave him a choice of character but Stine gravitated towards the hilariously and unfortunately named “Man-Thing” due to a fondness for swamp monsters.
In the inaugural issue and storyline, it will see Man-Thing head to Hollywood to understand why he hasn’t gotten his own Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.
Originally Man-Thing could not speak (as is typical with giant, lumbering eldritch swamp monsters) but Stine is looking to mix things up, “He can talk and he’s very sarcastic.”
