No Comfort in the Short North — Double Comfort Closing

Another one bites the dust — as they say. The 3-year-old Short North restaurant, Double Comfort, will be locking their doors for good on Sunday due to an inability to work out a new lease with their landlord.

In an email to patrons, Owner Mary Lyski informed supporters of the decision Wednesday.

“I could not be more grateful for your help and I want you to be among the first to know that while our commitment to serving those in need remains firm, our model for making that happen is changing,” she wrote.

The restaurant was unique, even in the dense foody city of Columbus — in that it was also a social enterprise operating under the, “buy one, give one” business model — where it make donations every six months to a food pantry based on how many meals it had sold. In their three-year tenure they donated more than 92,000 meals to area food pantries and with the last few days of business she hops to cross the 95,000 bar.

The restaurant specialized in southern cooking and fried chicken and had recently declared itself a sanctuary restaurant for immigrants and refugees amid today’s polarizing political climate.
