Crack open your wallet to help fund a Woody Hayes shrine in his hometown
‘Cause they couldn’t go for $50,000, the GoFundMe for a Woody Hayes statue in his hometown is aiming for $40,000.
The microscopic town of Newcomerstown helped shape Woody Hayes into the legendary OSU football coach he was. All 3,800 people in the town an hour northeast of Columbus are mighty proud of their late, local celebrity but have nothing to show for it.
The buckeye blog Eleven Warriors couldn’t stand the thought of the Buckeye’s winningest coach not having a monument on his stomping grounds. So, they teamed up with Newcomerstown Historical Society at the very end of 2016 to launch a campaign to raise money for a life-sized Woody Woodrow Hayes memorial statue.
So far, $18,155 has been raised. If $40k gets collected, Woody’s statue will challenge every man, woman, and child who comes through Newcomerstown to wear short sleeve in the dead of winter and punch college students in the face when they piss you off.
