ACLU sues CPD for targeting travel ban protestors back in January

Three people who were involved in the travel ban protest in downtown Columbus back in January are suing the city, unnamed officers, and the police chief for being targeted by officers.

They claim clops intentionally hit them in the face with pepper spray during the demonstration.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a federal lawsuit on Wednesday and said police body cameras caught all the action on film. The complaint seeks unspecified damages, attorney fees, and demands CPD to stop using excessive force.

It was reported that hundreds of people gathered to peacefully protest President Donald Trump’s then new travel ban. Police sprayed pepper spray over the demonstrators to try to break them up.

The three people who are suing claim they were sprayed at close range in the eyes. CPD says the group did not have a permit for the protest.
