Columbus State pres thinks bachelor’s degrees are overrated, teams up with Honda for job training
Are we in at a point where an associate degree is more lucrative than a bachelor’s? That’s what Columbus State Community College President David Harrison suggests.
He alongside Honda technical workforce development manager, Scot McLemore, testified yesterday in front of a congressional committee on the gap between available jobs and qualified workers to fill them.
Harrison believes the reason for the gap is due partly to the over-emphasis on bachelor’s degrees. He believes students need better training to fill all these job vacancies. Columbus State Community College is the place to do that.
Honda partners with CSCC and local school districts for a program that allows students to get hands on training at Honda three days a week with the remaining two days being dedicated to the classroom.
The end goal being for students to get hired on at Honda.
