Come out from behind controller to new e-sport social club

Blake Compton told Columbus Business First that the e-sports culture can be “toxic.” But he’s not going to accept that fact, he’s going to try to change it.

Close Quarters is a new private e-sports training facility and social club at480 W Town Street in Franklinton. The space will act as a hybrid between improving video game skills and physically interacting with others in the scene. The hope is to bring people out from behind their keyboards and controllers. Plus, Close Quarters will display local art and be open to the public on Fridays.

It’s been quietly open for about a month while finishing touches are completed but the true testament of Compton’s venture will come on September 9. Close Quarters is slated to host a big gaming competition expected to pull contestants from Chicago, NY, Charlotte, and maybe even St. Louis, according to Columbus Business First.

The gaming offerings will rotate but some of the rooms will focus on console fighting games.

Monthly, all-access membership fees are $40.
