How useful are colleges to the country? Ohio State ranked no. 18
Forget about if a school is right for you. Is it right for the world? There are about a million ranking systems rating colleges and universities for prospective students to line them up toe to toe and see which one seems like the best. SAT scores, size of classes, extracurriculars, etc. Washington Monthly on the other hand ranked schools on how good they were for the country. Was the university helping low-income students? Are they improving the quality of teaching?
Ohio State was ranked no.18 on the list of national universities. Part of that ranking was 24 percent of students receive Pell Grants, the school is ranked 63 with the Peace Corp and ranked 82 for community service hours. Ohio University on the other hand tanked on this list at no. 236.
