Big fat no to Issue 2
As the election dust settles, a clear message was sent by Ohio voters this Tuesday. A overwhelmingly no to Issue 2 were the polls results, with over 75 percent of the state voting saying, “nah.”
If passed, Issue 2 would have required state agencies and programs to purchase prescription drugs at price no higher than what current U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs pays for same or similar prescriptions. At current rates the VA faces a near 24 percent discount to some prescription drugs.
While the issue was supported by former Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, Ohio medical departments, advised against the issue. As reported in USA Today, a yes on Issue 2 could have increased other cost for those who seek private medical insurance. This was a similar sentiment for some veterans, whose prescription drugs would have been raised due to Issue 2 passing.
