Local ALS chapter sees 5-fold growth from ice bucket challenge
The challenge is simple. A friend challenges you to take a bucket full of ice water, dump it on your head and then post the silly looking video of you being real cold online. The charity that has become attached to the practice is ALS Association, and while the national chapter has seen huge growth since the videos began, the Central & Southern Ohio chapter has seen growth as well. The local tally is currently around $560,000 from 8,847 donors and more than 7,000 of those donors were first-timers. Critics are arguing why the need for the video when people can just donate the money (which is really kind of the point), but clearly the numbers have proved that more than just a few of those silly video-makers have donated to research for ALS.
