614Sports: #SaveTheCrew jerseys are mysterious, available for pre-sale
Good afternoon, here is the latest with sports in the (614)…
Moving South in the Winter
It’s said that money can’t buy happiness, but Crew SC Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter is hoping it can help replace 31 goals and 10 assists last season from now former Crew SC offensive stars Ola Kamara and Justin Meram. While Mr. Kamara was traded to the Los Angeles Galaxy last week, Mr. Meram was just traded to Orlando City SC—a team that finished tied for second to last in points in the Eastern Conference in 2017—for more than $1 million in allocation money (general and targeted) spread through 2019, as well as an international spot on the roster.

Reportedly, part of the motivation for Mr. Meram’s trade request was due to the uncertainty of Crew SC’s status in Columbus following this season. However, concerning the relocation issue, as Lee Corso would say, “not so fast, my friend!” Local investors are rumored to have been brought back into negotiations in this fluid, ongoing situation.
FYI – Crew SC defensive midfielder and Gahanna’s favorite son Wil Trapp captained the USMNT this past Sunday in a nil-nil friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Carson, California alongside fellow club teammates Zac Steffen and Gyasi Zardes.

OSU Was Boom-Shaka-Lacking at the Buzzer
Following an 82-79 NBA Jam-like finish against Penn State last week in Columbus that snapped Ohio State’s 9-game conference winning streak, the Buckeyes (18-5, 9-1) next battle the Indiana Hoosiers (12-10, 5-5) at home tonight. Dropping four spots in the national rankings, the #17 Buckeyes find themselves in what could be a telling game for their forthcoming February slate. After struggling in two consecutive Big Ten matchups against Nebraska and Penn State, the men in scarlet and gray need to reassert their dominance through balanced scoring and distribution, plus tighter defense on the perimeter (Penn State was 11-14 from 3) with fundamental precision. Tip-off between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Indiana Hoosiers is at 7 p.m. tonight at the Schott broadcasted on ESPN 2.
