City pulls trigger on 4 gun laws, officials react
Columbus recorded a record number of homicides last year—143—and Columbus City Councils took measures on Monday that they feel will help curb gun violence in the city.
According to NBC4i, City Council unanimously passed four gun ordinances:
- Ban bump stocks
- Ban the sale of imitation guns to minors
- Address properties with a history of violent crimes
- Expand the definition of domestic violence in an attempt to keep domestic violence offenders from obtaining firearms
Mayor Andrew Ginther:
These are common sense ordinances to reduce gun violence in Columbus. I applaud @ColumbusCouncil and @CityAttyKlein for their partnership on this important work. https://t.co/GHx5VrW8ai

Zach Klein, City Attoney:
And mirroring federal law so that criminals w dangerous & violent histories will now go to jail for possessing a gun. Ex: domestic violence convict will now go to jail if s/he possess a weapon. (Sadly that same person can possess a gun under Ohio law. We’re ending that nonsense) https://t.co/CgEvhGT28o

City Council:
These four ordinances are designed to close the gap between state and federal weapons laws, protect all victims of domestic violence, and keep dangerous weapons out of neighborhoods. #CCC4U pic.twitter.com/Lgf9ZfGP5r
