Maybe campus Gateway isn’t doomed for corporate after all, new bar announced

After the announcement of both Ugly Tuna and Mad Mex closing, Gateway was looking like it was going to be a ghost town.

But it looks like Good Night John Boy will be entering the scene to save the day and the night lives of Ohio State students.

This Cleveland-based 1970s themed concept will take over either the space left vacant by Ugly Tuna at 1546 N High St or Mad Mex at 1542 N High St (according to rumors about Ugly Tuna being turned into CampusPartners offices heard by bar owner John Votino, it will be the latter).

The Dispatch reports Good Night John Boy is described as “the embodiment of 70′s nostalgia, drawing inspiration from the decade’s pop culture to cultivate a groovy environment where patrons can dance, drink, and eat late into the night.”

It is expected to open later this year.

The name is a nod to the 70s TV show “The Waltons,” which ended each episode with the characters—the lead being John Boy—wishing each other a good night.

Forward Hospitality Group, who also owns Flipside in Easton, will be developing Good Night John Boy.
